Botox® Considerations
Botox® is a neuromuscular modulator. It is Botulinum Toxin Type A and has been used therapeutically for many years for a variety of medical conditions. The molecule works to temporally block the nerve stimulation of specific muscles to weaken their contraction. It is these contractions that lead to lines and wrinkles, and therefore, by reducing the underlying tension of the muscle, the overlying skin appears more relaxed and smooth. Common areas treated include:
- Frown lines between the eyebrows.
- Creases across the forehead.
- Crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes.
- Fine lines around the mouth.
Am I an Ideal Candidate?
Good candidates for Botox® treatments are individuals with dynamic wrinkles. If you have deepening creases around your eyes, on your forehead, or eyebrows, then you may be an ideal candidate for getting Botox injections. You need to be in good overall health, without known allergies to Botox® or any of its ingredients. It is important to have a positive outlook and realistic expectations.
You may not be recommended for Botox® treatments if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Patients with active infections in the target areas are recommended to address the infection before getting Botox®.

The Procedure
Prior to your neuromodulator injections, a topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure patient comfort. Botox® is injected directly into the muscles in the areas desired to be treated using a very fine needle. Usually, ice on the skin beforehand is all that is needed to prevent any discomfort. The injections are performed in the office with no significant discomfort and no required downtime.
Your Botox will be administered in Dr. Alex Seal’s office located in Vancouver, British Columbia.
What to expect during your recovery
Botox® injections are performed in the office with no required anesthetic. You will be able to go home after the procedure to relax and recover or return to work and regular activities that day if desired. The refreshed results usually appear within the first 48-72 hours. Depending on your initial goals, you will still be able to smile, and convey emotion through your facial expressions, without the wrinkles. The results can last 4-to-6 months and can be maintained with subsequent touch-up injections.
This is an excellent option for patients who would like to look and feel refreshed, without having the downtime from surgery.
